I've often mulled over and thought about how experiences, jobs, school, life and personal interests have impacted friendships and closeness between friends and it's been exceptionally interesting to witness this first hand. If there's been any trend overall, I've noticed we've all gravitated towards people of similar thought and beliefs. Long gone are the days of elementary and high school in which it didn't really matter if you were Christian or agnostic, affluent upper class or from a deep blue collar background, American Idol Pop fanatic or classical music devotee. This certainly doesn't seem to be the case which is somewhat lamentable...
Another fleeting thought has been how badly I've been in contact with some friends and long time acquaintances, just as bad as they've kept in contact with myself. Are these friendships ultimately destined to fade entirely? Are they worth pursuing?... If nothing else, it just feels strange to have known some people for so long, and yet life outside of school has driven friends apart. It's quite understandable though. I've come to invest quite a bit more time myself into other friends, personal relationships, and the like with other people. With others, I honestly don't know what to say anymore conversationally and it's only a matter of minutes before a conversation dead ends...
Something else I've noticed that quite rather perturbs me that I've witnessed, amongst not only friends and acquaintances, but coworkers as well, has been a ceaseless desire and urge to compete with one another, so much so as to weaken friendships and destroy all reason amongst them... After we all finish school, establish careers, meet people and potentially engage in relationships, is this all we have left to resort to? Worrying about vacations, who's weekend was most "impressive", who owns what car, who's "better" than whom, who owns the best house, etc.? Why do we care? Does it honestly matter whether or not you've seen the latest movie, entertained yourself sick, or bought the latest car? What happened to appreciating simpler pleasures in life? Would anyone be able to survive without their precious text messaging and mindless thoughtlessness? What happened to thinking for one's self and pursuing what one wants in life because one genuinely desires it and not because it's what one has been brainwashed to covet?...
Lastly but certainly not least, I must admit I find Megadeth's song, "Symphony of Destruction" to be eerie in how accurately it portrays human nature and how uncannily true it is... I positively love its themes of absolute power and corruption and how ultimately, either begets destruction. Personally I think it holds true in not just the more apocalyptic sense, but in common workplaces, in politics, and in organizations universally. People are just fucked up. XD
Lyrics of awesomeness - "Symphony of Destruction"...
You take a mortal man,
And put him in control
Watch him become a god,
Watch peoples heads aroll
Aroll...
/chorus/
Just like the pied piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes,
Swaying to the symphony...
Of destruction
Acting like a robot,
Its metal brain corrodes.
You try to take its pulse,
Before the head explodes.
Explodes...
/chorus/
The earth starts to rumble
World powers fall
Awarring for the heavens,
A peaceful man stands tall
Tall...
/chorus/
...Gotta love 4am sleepless rants and ramblings haha. XD
